Artists Biography
Aram Kupetsyan

Aram Kupetsyan is undeniably one of the most famous artists from former USSR.

Aram was born in 1928 in Budenovsk (Stavropol region). In 1950 he graduated from the Department of Graphic Art at the Potemkin Teachers' Institute. In 1955 he completed his post-graduate studies at the USSR Imperial Academy of Arts.

Since 1954 he has been participating in city, republican and All-Union art exhibitions. Since 1971 – Aram is exhibiting his work in all of the most major Russian Art Exhibitions in Russia & abroad in: Japan, Belgium, France, West Berlin, FRG, Switzerland, Lebanon, Italy, USA, Finland, Sweden, Poland.

Kupetsyan's canvases follow a certain decorative code. In his paintings color bears a psychological load turning into an emotional key to the subject matter - a metaphor that brings
out the picture's content. His artworks are characterized by mixed media use with different textures, surfaces, collage elements, papier collé and a large variety of merged subject matters.

Paintings by Kupetsyan are displayed in the State Painting Gallery of Armenia and in the Art Museums in Kislovodsk, Zaporozhye and Nalchic and also in private collections worldwide. His paintings have been also sold by the internationally acclaimed auction house, CHRISTIE’S in London.
